2 secrets to getting more Re-tweets

by David King on September 10, 2009

One of the things that i have learned over the past 8 months on twitter is to get re-tweeted a lot.  I mean extremely often!

In fact, I have learned to get re-tweeted so well that I have gotten my live show re-tweeted several days after i was live.

Not only have i learned to get tweets re-tweeted on twitter but I have also learned how to get my blog re-tweeted a lot too…

If you don’t believe me just check out http://Davidbeking.com and see for yourself!

There are a couple little things that you can do to get more re-tweets today and I am going to share them with you.

Here they are…

  1. One of the biggest reasons that some of the most followed and listened to twitter users get re-tweeted all the time is simple because they ask for it.  You would be surprised how simple this is but it works and you will get more re-tweets simply if you implement this alone! All you want to do is add this to the end of your tweet “Pls RT” that just means please retweet.  When people see this they are going to be more likely to re-tweet your tweet because you asked them too.  This is something that I have seen some of the best twitter users do and have been doing it myself now for a while and it works all the time.  Simply add “Pls RT” or “please re-tweet” to the end of your tweet and i guarantee that you will start to get more re-tweets and followers from that alone.
  2. The second method that allows me to get re-tweeted a lot is actually a wordpress plugin on my blog.  The plugin is free and it is called tweettmeme.  This plugin is the green retweet button that you see on blogs all across the web.  By simply adding this button more people will retweet your blog posts which also have your @username in them once you edit the settings for the plugin.  After you add this plugin to your blog be sure to ask at the end of your blog post for a retweet.  People really don’t mind retweeting your blog post if they thought it was good.  So simply ask again and make it easy for them to retweet your blog and you will see that you will drive more blog traffic and get more retweets and followers simply by following these few tips.

Use these as often as you can and the results will be better, twitter is a site that you can get so much out of if you know the science behind it and the mindset of the users!

Take care and TAKE ACTION!

have a great rest of the day!

David,
While I have not commented before, I do often read your posts. Thank you for writing them. This one caught my eye on Facebook, 2 ways to get more RTs, of course the minimal number caught my attention.

Yet, it is great advice. When I have asked my followers to please RT they follow. They do almost w/o question and I am often surprised at who RTs for me. But I didn’t know about Tweettmeme, and will be implementing tomorrow, when it’s not so late. Or after the cat behind me stops destroying my office. :)
